As Village Clean up Day has been arranged for Saturday 26th May (commencing at 9.30am, meet at the Spread Eagle car park) and there are various other clean up events being scheduled by different organisations for May, the Parish Council have agreed that they should enter the Daily Mail competition (article attached). The main project to be completed during this years clean up will be the replacement of the rotten weirs on the Brook (Materials etc have already been purchased via a grant from ESBC). There will also be some smaller tasks for completion on the day. Use of the OGS Rooms has been agreed for toilet facilities and access to hot water etc. A skip has been booked and will be housed on the Spread Eagle Car Park. Please can you pass details of the event to neighbours/friends/family as the bigger the clean up the better chance we have of winning! Also, if any of your groups have any projects planned for within the next two weeks (e.g planting up of planters, Spread Eagle Island, Painting of Alderbrook Site railings etc etc) please can you take some before and after pictures and send them to the Parish Council Clerk by Thursday 31st May so that she can complete the application and send it off. There is a first prize of £10,000 to go towards a Community Project! Where possible please bring along your own tools such as clippers, rakes and if possible wheel barrows and for those who wish to help in the Brook gloves and wellies. THANKS.

Villagers out in force to hear 120 homes proposals
On Monday 16 April, Burton and South Derbyshire College along with their planning consultant Peter Diffey, met with villagers at the Craythorne Golf Club to explain their controversial plans to build 120 homes on the playing field. The two hundred plus turnout made their feelings known. (The Burton Mail article about the meeting can be read here).
Documentation on the proposals was in short supply but it is hoped to provide links to online copies below as and when it becomes available.
-
Rolleston Consultation Documentation (provided as a series of links on the College website)
-
Parish Council letter to Peter Diffey re College Field - 31st January 2012
Interested parties may also wish to visit the Rolleston Parish Council Facebook page and the College website for more details.
It was indicated that a formal planning application is likely to be submitted in May. Please note that only comments submitted formally to the Planning Department of ESBC, when the time comes, will be considered by the Local Authority when they determine the application. Objections you make to the College itself will not be included.

Read more about this consultation process including dates of meetings, contacts, etc here. The first issue of their newsletter with further details can be read here.
Further issues have since been produced and are available using the links below:
They hand delivered a Neighbourhood Plan Questionnaire to all residents in April (to be returned by 4th May) and are now in the process of collating the responses.
Further information on local planning matters can be read here.

Rollestonian of the Year Award
Tom Starbuck was presented with the Rollestonian of the Year Award 2011 at the Annual Parish meeting on 23 April 2012 - the day after completing the London Marathon.
Despite declaring “never again” after finishing the 2010 London Marathon (having raised over £10,000), he changed his mind, and this year both his wife Becky and himself ran the London marathon to once again raise funds for Birmingham Children’s hospital.
This is the hospital where their daughter, Evie, spent her first five months of life. Their fundraising will go to the Neonatal Surgical Ward whose dedicated staff continue to go above and beyond the call of duty for every family who needs them.
This is the fourth time he asked for sponsorship money, saying "but this will be the last time I attempt a sponsored run because my knees are telling me to stop!! The people of Rolleston have been truly amazing since Evie’s arrival in December 2008, not only in fundraising, but also in support and kindness. We appreciate every penny we raise and are well aware of the generosity in this current economic climate. Thank you once again for all your help in our efforts to give something back to the hospital. As always we will be collecting sponsorship money in the shop or visit our website to donate on line at http://justgiving.com/Tom-and-BeckyStarbuck." (over £6,400 .... as 05-05-2012).
