Public announcements concerning the village
"Lest We Forget"
I am working on a project started by my late wife, Ann, a few years ago. She had begun to collect information about those who gave their lives in the two World Wars and whose names appear on the war memorial plaques in the lych gate, and I should like to complete this and produce a booklet with all the information. If you are related to any of them or have any information about them, I should be very pleased to hear from you. During the course of the year, I hope to visit some of the more accessible war graves and monuments in France and Belgium to take photographs. Arnold Burston 813457.
The full appeal can be read here.
More Flood Wardens Needed
Rolleston Parish Council has already found several flood wardens but more are needed to cover flood blackspots. They will be the first point of call for villagers if flooding is likely, responsible for distributing sand bags and identifying vulnerable people. Wardens can live anywhere in the village not just in flood areas. If you are interested then please contact Mrs Heidi Light, the Parish Clerk, on 812538.
Youth Grant
The Parish Council has set up a system of youth grants for innovative schemes working with young people in the village. Please contact Mrs Heidi Light, the Parish Clerk, on 812538 for more details.
St Mary's Church Room
There is a welcome increase in the use of the Church Room by residents and local organisations. If you would like to reserve the room for a party or event please contact , (Tel: 740 038). There is no hire charge but a donation to Church funds is appreciated.
Church Weddings
Anyone considering organising their wedding in Rolleston should contact the Rector, Rev. Ian Whitehead, at the Rectory on 810151 . "The vicar who married us in Rolleston was wonderful" (Quote taken from WeddingGuideUK.com)
Coffee Mornings
Rolleston's regular Thursday coffee mornings are held in the sixteenth Century Old Grammar School in the churchyard each week from 10.00 to 11.30. If you are not already a regular visitor, do go along. There is often something interesting to buy, and it usually seems to be someone's birthday, so you may get a piece of cake thrown in (or more daintily served). In addition, the beautiful old Church is open for visitors, with willing volunteers.
St Mary's Church Floodlighting
Floodlighting of St Mary’s brightens the village centre and makes it much more attractive during the long winter evenings. The lights were installed and continue to be maintained by the Civic Trust but the electricity bill is met by the Church.
Sponsorship for the lights to mark a celebration, anniversary, in memory of someone, or just because you enjoy them, costs £5 for an evening or £25 for a week.
To sponsor lighting please contact Mr Tom Martin, 43 The Lawns, tel. 813 320.
